We are a profession on the cutting edge of civilization\u2019s most profound technical and creative expression. At the same time we are ancient \u2013 literally as old as civilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern and Ancient at the Same Time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are modern and we are anachronistic \u2013 and are thus a most effective measure of the totality of human culture. The amazing heritage of architecture involuntarily becomes our starting point when initiating a project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking Back While Moving Forward<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much of our initial work involves editing away an over-reliance on recapitulation and a slavish respect for precedent. An architect should gaze into that rear-view mirror now and then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Architecture as a Daily Act of Invention<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the most important obligation is to invent a future, every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Architecture contains beautiful contradictions.
