Architecture is a uniquely fascinating discipline for many reasons, not least because it demands at least passing familiarity with so many disparate fields… Art, craft, technology, history, culture, economics and law, to name but a few.
If architecture is to be relevant the architect’s concept must be buildable. This implies the architect must know how to build.
While contemporary design practice assumes the architect will work closely with technical consultants, including especially the structural, mechanical and plumbing engineers, it is vitally important the architect has more than a passing familiarity with engineering principles generally and the way of building specifically. To effectively conduct the entire orchestra of designers and tradesmen through the process of conceiving and constructing buildings is central to our role.
Our practice is a bit different than most in that we are, in addition to skilled designers also accomplished, practiced builders with many construction projects in our portfolio. Our particular experiences are in construction management, building system integration, forensic analysis, historic preservation and framing technology.
These skills are also complimented by the technical consulting we perform for building owners who come to us for help with diagnosis and remediation strategies for symptoms of building failure in their properties.
We have picked up more than a few tricks since opening our doors in 1991
