Guam is a small island located in the Western Pacific -closer to Tokyo (1,600 miles) than to San Francisco ( 6,000 miles). However, as an American territory with a significant military footprint Guam is a significant strategic asset for the United States. Our principal, Tobias Guggenheimer, is a registered Guam architect with experience both living and working on the island. As Guam registered architects we conducted several projects on the island, including work in the residential, cultural and military markets.
A Family Legacy Realized
For a retired, single executive, we designed a tidy home in Guam. The lot was situated in a family compound, on land purchased by her father in the hope that his children could one day live together side by side. Our client’s decision to build a home there brought his dream into fruition.
A Compact, Modern, Storm-Resistant Home
This modern house was designed as compact, geometric composition to create a sturdy, reinforced concrete structure. It is slightly raised above ground level to resist flooding during the rainy season – and to withstand earthquake and hurricane-force wind.
Off-the-Grid Living Through Solar and Water Harvesting
Guam is blessed with abundant sunshine – and thus perfect for the array of photovoltaic panels we planned for the roof. With electricity harvested from the sun, water harvested from rainfall and waste water processed by an on-site septic system, the house will provide ‘off the grid’ living to our client.
